Family Starter Security Checklist

7 steps to protect your household this weekend. No tech background needed.

1. Step 1

   Install a password manager

2. Step 2

   Move every reused password into it

   Any password used on more than one site is a risk. Import or re-save every account. The password manager will flag duplicates for you.
3. Step 3

   Enable MFA on your primary email

   Your email is the master key — everything else resets through it. Use Authy (free, syncs across devices) not SMS. Do this one first. 📄 Authy Setup Guide →
4. Step 4

   Enable MFA on bank & financial accounts

   Log in to each bank and brokerage and turn on two-factor. If they only offer SMS, that's still better than nothing — upgrade to an app later.
5. Step 5

   Enable MFA on social media

   Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok — all of them. A hacked social account is how attackers reach your contacts and get personal info.
6. Step 6

   Check haveibeenpwned.com for every email

   Visit haveibeenpwned.com and enter each email address in the house. Any that show up in a breach: change that password everywhere it was used. 📄 HaveIBeenPwned Guide →
7. Step 7

   Set a PIN lock on every device

   Every phone, tablet, and laptop should require a PIN, password, or biometric to unlock. Enable it in Settings → Security (Android) or Face/Touch ID & Passcode (iPhone).

Progress is saved locally. Clearing browser data will reset it.
